Was Your Teen At A Party Where A Crime Took Place? Find A Lawyer Now

Celina Henry

If there was an incident at one of your teen's friends' houses and your teen may be facing charges by being guilty by association, you want to meet with a criminal defense attorney as fast as you can. You don't want to make any mistakes that could end up being destructive to your teen's case, and you want to make sure that you know exactly what's going on. Here are some of the things that you should take into consideration, and things to be prepared with when you meet with the criminal attorney for the first time.

Don't Talk to the Police

If the police interviewed your teen without you or a lawyer present, this is illegal and anything that was said by the teen can't be used against them. You don't want to meet with an officer or make any statements about what happened until a lawyer has prepped your teen with what to say, and can be present with them in the interview room. You also don't want your teen talking about the incident with anyone outside of your lawyer, especially with anyone else involved in the case.

Protect Your Teen's Privacy

You don't want your teen to be subject to criticism during the case, or while the incident is being resolved. It's best to remove them from social media, or to not utilize the accounts, so there isn't anything that arises online that can end up hurting their case.  This may require you to freeze their phone or other electronic devices, but it's what is best for the case.

Get the Truth in Writing

If your teen has friends that can vouch for their innocence in the situation, have them go to your attorney right away to make a statement about what happened, and to speak with your lawyer on your teen's behalf. You don't want it to leave their memory, or have them change their stance later on and not tell the truth.

When there is a criminal incident that takes place and your teen was there, maybe involved, or possibly guilty by association, it's important that you get your teen the criminal defense that they need. Criminal charges are something that could negatively affect your teen for a lifetime after they have grown up and tried to move on with their life, so make sure they get the situation managed as quickly as they can now.
